KCAO Hosts Domestic Violence Awareness Month Walk and Resource Fair

On Friday, October 10, 2025, KCAO hosted a powerful Domestic Violence Awareness Walk and Resource Fair at Civic Center Park in Hanford to raise awareness and support survivors during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The event brought together community members, advocates, and local organizations for a morning of education, empowerment, and solidarity. The Resource Fair, held from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, featured over 20 local vendors and agencies offering information about counseling, housing, legal aid, and other vital services for individuals and families affected by domestic violence.

At 12:00 PM, participants gathered for the Awareness Walk, donning purple ribbons and signs of support as they marched together through downtown Hanford to show unity and strength for survivors.

October is recognized nationwide as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time dedicated to honoring survivors, raising awareness, and promoting prevention efforts. First observed in 1987 by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, DVAM has since grown into a movement that empowers communities across the country to stand against violence and advocate for change.

The purple ribbon, now widely recognized as the symbol of domestic violence awareness, served as a unifying emblem throughout the event, representing courage, survival, and hope.

Through its Barbara Saville Domestic Violence Shelter and other support programs, KCAO continues to provide comprehensive services including emergency shelter, counseling, advocacy, and case management for survivors in Kings County. The Domestic Violence Awareness Walk and Resource Fair offered an opportunity to highlight these resources and remind the community that help is always available.

Together, the Kings County community took meaningful steps toward ending domestic violence and building a safer, stronger future for all.
