
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $67,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.
The following returns will not be completed this year for the 2024 tax return.
No cash/check/digital assets or other property or services for any work performed not reported on Forms W-2 or 1099-DIV.
No income (or loss) from rental property or Sch K-1 and royalties.

Do you have the Senior Tax Registration form?
The 1040-SR is a tax form specifically designed to be user-friendly for seniors aged 65 and older. KCAO does not provide the 1040-SR.
How do I get a copy of my W-2?
To obtain a copy of your W2, contact your employer. If you have e-filed your tax returns with us, your KCAO-printed tax return should include a copy of your W2.
Do I need to bring in the 1095A health insurance form?
If you have a 1095A form from Covered California, please bring it to your tax appointment.
I would like to learn how to do taxes to volunteer and help others with their taxes.
KCAO offers Tax Training for VITA volunteers usually around January. Visit the volunteer page to sign up for volunteer opportunities.
Can I reschedule my tax appointment?
Yes, you can reschedule your appointment through the emails sent to you regarding your original appointment. You can also call our main office to reschedule your appointment.
