Kings Community Action Organization is proud to announce that we have officially achieved Bronze Tier recognition in the Pathways to Excellence program, marking an important milestone in our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement.
This summer, the team at our Barbara Saville Domestic Violence Shelter organized a special Water Day to give the children currently staying at the shelter a chance to simply be kids.
This month, KCAO celebrated several milestones, including the Adolescent Family Life Program's summer barbecue for youth and young families, and the Head Start team's Father's Day barbecue at the Preston Green Learning Center. KCAO is also hosting a Roaring 20s Monte Carlo Casino Night fundraiser on November 7, 2025, with all proceeds supporting the local food bank.
The homeless population in Kings County rose by 7% from 2023 to 2024, as Juan Torres, the Special Projects Administrator with the Kings Community Action Organization, pointed out on Tuesday when he said the 2024 Point-In-Time survey identified 412 homeless individuals in the county.
Kings County crowned an achievement in terms of homeless housing on Friday morning with the official opening of the Sunrise Apartments which will house up to 22 individuals struggling with homelessness.
