VITA Tax Appointments are Now Open for Free Filing Services in Kings County
KCAO has opened appointments for its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, commonly known as VITA, offering free tax preparation services to eligible Kings County residents.
VITA is a federally supported program operated locally by Kings Community Action Organization. The program provides free tax filing assistance to individuals and families who earned less than sixty-seven thousand dollars during the previous tax year.
Appointments will be available from January 27 through April 15, with services offered Tuesday through Thursday. All tax services are by appointment only. While limited walk in appointments may occasionally be announced through KCAO’s text notification system, walk ins will not be offered on a regular basis.
Tax appointments will primarily be held in Hanford, with Avenal appointments available only on the third Wednesday and fourth Thursday of each month. There will unfortunately be no VITA services in Corcoran this year, however Corcoran residents are encouraged to schedule appointments in Hanford.
In addition to filing current year taxes, VITA volunteers can assist residents with filing prior year tax returns dating back to 2020. Each tax year requires a separate appointment, and residents should plan accordingly when scheduling.
VITA services are designed to help taxpayers file accurate returns, claim eligible credits, and avoid costly preparation fees. The program is especially beneficial for working families, seniors, and individuals with limited access to professional tax services.
Appointments can be scheduled online at www.kcao.org/vita. For more information or assistance with scheduling, residents can call 559 904 8854.
KCAO encourages eligible residents to book their appointments early, as availability is limited and demand for free tax services remains high throughout the filing season.
