SUN Bucks Helps Families Buy Food During Summer Break
California is bringing back SUN Bucks this summer to help families buy food while school is out. SUN Bucks provides eligible children with $120 in food benefits, with $40 provided for each month of June, July, and August.
For Summer 2026, an estimated 5.4 million children in California may be eligible for SUN Bucks. The program is designed to help families address food insecurity and the added cost of meals during the summer months, when children no longer have access to regular school meals.
Most eligible children will receive SUN Bucks automatically. Other families may need to apply for benefits through their child’s school. Families who receive SUN Bucks can still participate in other food assistance programs, including CalFresh and Summer Meal Programs.
KCAO is helping spread the word about SUN Bucks to ensure families in Kings County know about this important resource.
For cardholder assistance, families can call the SUN Bucks helpline at (877) 328-9677. Automated support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and live agents are available Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Families can also check their benefit balance and claim status through the California EBT cardholder website.
