Thanking the Providers Who Help Kings County Families Thrive

Between May 5–12, KCAO Resource & Referral staff visited 250 family childcare providers across Kings County to personally express their appreciation. Each visit was marked by genuine gratitude and meaningful connection, as staff extended heartfelt thanks for the dedication and care providers consistently show to children and families throughout the community.

Provider Appreciation Day is an annual celebration on the Friday before Mother’s Day that recognizes the work of childcare providers, teachers and other educators of young children. Established by NAFCC in 1995 as a way to thank family childcare and center-based providers, Provider Appreciation Day is now celebrated throughout the United States and around the world as a “thank you” to the people who educate, support and spend a tireless amount of time with our children.

As a small token of appreciation, each provider received a succulent plant along with a chance to win educational materials. We recognize the essential role they play in nurturing and educating young children during their earliest and most important years of development.

These visits also created space for providers to share their experiences, challenges, and the joys they encounter in their daily work. Their stories reflected a deep commitment to the children in their care and highlighted the positive impact they have on families across the county. These conversations further strengthened the sense of partnership and mutual respect between providers and KCAO.

Beyond recognition, this initiative reinforced the importance of staying connected with providers and ensuring they feel seen, valued, and supported. Building and maintaining these relationships is vital to sustaining a strong and responsive network of care.

Moving forward, Resource & Referral staff remain committed to continuing outreach efforts, providing ongoing support, and creating opportunities for professional growth and connection among providers. By investing in these relationships, we help ensure that families in Kings County continue to have access to high-quality childcare and the resources they need to thrive.

This initiative not only celebrated the dedication of family childcare providers but also highlighted the strength of collaboration within our community.
