Preston Green Head Start Students Learn About Recycling Through Hands-On Experience

Students at KCAO’s Preston Green Learning Center recently had a unique opportunity to learn about recycling and waste collection thanks to a special visit from the City of Hanford and its recycling team.

The visit brought a real recycling truck directly to the Head Start site, giving children a hands on look at how trash is collected in their community. For many students, it was an exciting and memorable experience that turned everyday concepts into something real and engaging.

“Children had a fun and hands-on experience learning about how trash is collected in our community,” said Site Supervisor Barbara Sibrian. “They saw a real trash truck and explored pictures of items that can be recycled at home.”

Beyond the excitement, the visit served as an important early learning opportunity. Children were introduced to the concepts of reducing, reusing, and recycling, while also gaining a better understanding of what happens to trash after it is thrown away.

“Thanks to this experience provided by the City of Hanford, children were able to connect with their community and understand what happens to trash after it’s thrown away,” Sibrian said.

Experiences like this play a key role in early childhood education by helping young learners build awareness of the world around them. By introducing environmental responsibility at an early age, children can begin developing habits that contribute to healthier communities in the future.

KCAO extends its appreciation to the City of Hanford and its recycling team for creating an engaging and educational experience for students. Partnerships like these help bring learning to life and reinforce the importance of community involvement.
