Kings County homelessness rises 7% in 2024

The homeless population in Kings County rose by 7% from 2023 to 2024, as Juan Torres, the Special Projects Administrator with the Kings Community Action Organization, pointed out on Tuesday when he said the 2024 Point-In-Time survey identified 412 homeless individuals in the county.

Torres also revealed that 90% of those in the county who reported as being homeless were in the city of Hanford.

Going from 383 homeless individuals to 412 is a jump of nearly 30 people, and in a city that struggles to keep up with the needs of its existing homeless population due to a lack of housing and shelter opportunities, taking on those extra people creates unprecedented hardships for both the city and those without a home.
