KCAO Supports Students Facing Homelessness: Daryeon’s Journey After Incarceration
Student homelessness and reentry after incarceration create major barriers to college success, especially for students who are trying to rebuild their lives while pursuing their education. In this video, we share Daryeon Brown’s powerful story—a Lemoore College kinesiology student who experienced homelessness after being released from prison—and how the KCAO Lemoore College Program helped him secure stable housing and create a new path forward.
Dani Ibarra, a case manager with KCAO, explains how the housing program supports full‑time Lemoore College students who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk. The program provides housing for up to 17 students and connects them with essential resources such as:
Food assistance
Transportation support
Employment resources
Mental health services
Academic support
Financial literacy
For Daryeon, finding KCAO on the school’s website changed everything. After nearly 10 years of incarceration, he struggled with instability and uncertainty—never knowing where he would sleep next. Through the KCAO program, he found not only housing, but a foundation for success, confidence, and long‑term independence.
Daryeon shares how being in school has opened doors, created opportunities, and helped him build a future he once thought was out of reach.
This video highlights the impact of stable housing, reentry support, and community resources for college students overcoming homelessness and starting new chapters in life.
