Taking Action Against Hunger
Each September, organizations across the nation recognize Hunger Action Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about food insecurity and inspiring people to take meaningful action in the fight against hunger. For KCAO, this mission is close to home. Through our Food Bank, KCAO provides over 100,000 pounds of food every month throughout the year to families, seniors, and children across Kings County who might otherwise go without.
This year, we are proud to announce that a local partner, People’s Funeral Chapel, is stepping forward to host a food drive in honor of Hunger Action Month, with all donations supporting the KCAO Barbara Saville Shelter as well as Kings Gospel Missions Shelters.
Food insecurity affects millions of Americans every year, including right here in Kings County. Rising costs of food and housing continue to put pressure on families, forcing too many to make the difficult choice between paying bills or putting food on the table. Hunger Action Month is an opportunity for all of us individuals, businesses, and community organizations to come together and ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.
By hosting this food drive, People’s Funeral Chapel is helping extend the reach of our organizations to make it easier for community members to get involved. Donations of non-perishable food items collected at the funeral home throughout September will go directly to families in need, ensuring shelves are stocked and meals are available.
We invite everyone to participate by donating items such as:
• Canned fruits and vegetables
• Rice, pasta and sauces
• Canned meats, beans and soups
• Peanut butter and jelly
• Oatmeal, cereal, juice and granola bars
• Cooking oil, flour, sugar, and seasonings
Together, these contributions can make a big difference for families struggling to put food on the table.
Drop-off Locations Include:
• People’s Funeral Chapel
• Purified Water and Ice
• Grocery Outlet
• Hotworx Fitness Studio
• Kings Gospel Mission Thrift Store
• Fashion Cleaners
KCAO would like to express our gratitude for People’s Funerals Chapel and all the participating collection sites for making this possible!
