Adolescent Family Life Program
The Adolescent Family Life Program addresses the social, health, educational, and economic consequences of adolescent pregnancy by providing comprehensive case management services to pregnant and parenting teens and their children. The AFLP emphasizes promotion of positive youth development, focusing on and building upon the adolescents’ strengths and resources to work toward:
- Improving the health of the pregnant and parenting teen, thus supporting the health of the baby
- Improving graduation rates
- Reducing repeat pregnancies
- Improving linkages and creating networks for pregnant and parenting teens
The Positive Youth Development grant is being used to develop and implement evidence-informed program strategies, and conduct subsequent evaluation to strengthen AFLP.
KCAO Youth Services recognizes the need for emergency supplies for infants, babies and toddlers. These items are available to pregnant and/or parenting teens who participate in either the AFLP or Cal Learn programs at the baby stores.
The Cal-Learn Program serves pregnant or parenting teenagers who are 19 years of age or younger, in receipt of CalWORKS, and who do not have a High School Diploma or equivalent. The goal of this program is to promote and encourage self sufficiency and the completion of high school or the equivalent. Youth who participate in Cal Learn will follow the same program as AFLP/PYD.
