KCAO announces new funding, food distribution dates

HANFORD — The Kings Community Action Organization (KCAO) received almost $47,000 in funding to help community members with their utility bills.

The non-profit announced Friday they received a total of $46,934 which will help Kings County residents pay their gas or electric bill, according to the KCAO website.

The utility program provides assistance once a year and is available to any Kings County resident who qualifies. Those who are interested need to apply for the program and can call (559) 415-7215 to learn more information.

ARMONA — In an effort to expand into a community where it didn’t previously have services, Kings Community Action Organization has purchased a child development center in Armona.

KCAO began operating the newly named Armona Learning Center, located at 13835 Lyn St., in April. The organization purchased the child development center, formerly called Edukids Preschool, in January.

Sufferers of domestic violence often feel isolated from the world and sometimes feel like they have no escape. This was the case for a woman named “Lillie” who was abused by her husband and is receiving help at a women's shelter in Hanford.
