Head Start is a preschool child development program for low-income children designed to develop new and innovative approaches to early childhood education and family development. KCAO has twelve Head Start centers throughout Kings County.
Region IX (Traditional) Head Start is a half-day program following the normal school year for children 3-5 years of age. Head Start has recently inaugurated three classes in the Hanford area that serve working parents with all-day child care in collaboration with Child Development Services. Services are also offered to meet the needs of children with disabilities.
Early Head Start is a 12 month home base program for pregnant and parenting adolescents and adults serving children 0 to 3 years of age.
Migrant Head Start provides all-day child development services for children 0-5 years of age in centers and in family child care homes. This program requires that 51% of family income come from agriculture-related work.
