Continuing Education Units (professional growth hours)
Participants will receive 0.5 continuing education units for each 5-hour class and 1.0 continuing education unit for each 10-hour class, providing that they attend the entire class.

Head Start Approaches to Strengthening Families

In 2007, the Office of Head Start and 24 participating grantees launched the Healthy Marriage and Family Initiative (HMFI) to help stabilize and strengthen the home environments of children and families. In the video below, parents talk about how participation in HMFI has enhanced communication with their children. The report offers Head Start and Early Head Start program staff strategies to help strengthen relationships in the families they serve.

The KCAO Board of Director’s meeting for next week ~~has been moved from Wednesday the 21^st to Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 4:30pm.~~ It will be held at the main office in the auditorium.

UPDATE: The meeting has been moved back to the 21^st at 4:30pm.

Hanford Sentinel: KCAO taps Garner as new leader

Kings Community Action Organization, the biggest government funded anti-poverty agency in Kings County, has named a new executive director.

It was announced this week that Jeff Garner, the organization’s community outreach and marketing specialist, will officially take over the leadership role Nov. 1. At that point, interim Executive Director John Stankovich will step down.

Koinonia one of several local groups working with KCAO to distribute food

Deana Lucken has a job as an in-home health provider, while her husband is a truck driver. But a sagging economy has left the couple barely scraping by nowadays, with time to stand in line and get a little bit of the help offered Friday.

Lucken was among hundreds of Kings County residents who lined up for hours to receive a boxful of staple food items like beans, rice, milk, pot roast and juice.
